Motorcycle Diaries Stars for
Cuba Respect
Actors Gael Garcia Bernal,
Mexico, and Rodrigo de la Serna,
Argentina, main characters of
the Oscar-winning film The
Motorcycle Diaries expressed
Tuesday their support for the
respect of Cuban independence
threatened by the US.
Those artists joined the over
400 celebrities from 50 nations,
including eight Nobel
prizewinners, that called the
world on Monday to impede an
aggression of the island by the
government of President George
W.Bush.
In a document spread worldwide,
cultural celebrities rejected
the aggressive interference in
US declarations and denounced
the interventionist nature of
the Washington-boosted
Commission for Assistance to a
Free Cuba.
Among signers appear Nobel
prizewinners Nadine Gordimer,
Wole Soyinka, Jose Saramago,
Dario Fo, Rigoberta Menchu,
Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Desmond
Tutu and Zhores Alfiorov.
Also signing are musicians Danny
Rivera, Puerto Rico; Egberto
Gismonti, Brazil, Tom Morello,
US; and Manu Chao, France; as
well as actors Danny Glover and
Harry Belafonte, US; Maria Rojo,
Mexico, Leticia Spiller, Brazil;
and Santiago Garcia, Colombia.
