Venezuela Detains Colombia Drug
Leader
Colombian drug trafficker
Libardo Parra, detained August 4
in Venezuela, will be deported
to his country of birth, Marcos
Chavez, director of the
Scientific, Penal and
Criminality Investigation Group,
reported Saturday.
Parra, stated Chavez, is
illegally in this country and,
according to the US embassy, he
is a leader of an organization
in charge of sending dollars
abroad and providing capital to
purchase drugs.
Although Venezuela does not
produce drugs or a great
consumer, it is affected by drug
trafficking, due to its
geographic position like a
bridge among Colombia, the US
market -the larger one of the
world-, and Europe.
Venezuelan authorities
confiscated over 70 tons of
drugs last year.
