Investment in Special Services
Costa Rica increasingly attracts foreign investment in the special services sector, which is based on knowledge and professional skills.

The high quality training, a good level of English, and being geographically close to the United States are some of the key factors to attract such investment, according to Alberto Trejos, chairman of the Costa Rican Coalition of Development Initiatives (CINDE in Spanish).

In 1998, there just two call centers in Costa Rica, which represented 200 direct jobs. Now, eight years later, there are 40 firms, with 10,000 people on their payrolls, in the service sector.

Trejos pointed out that Costa Rica has become a place where companies move their complex operations in order to save on costs, therefore the increasing investment in the sector.
