Is Today A Holiday Or Not?
Many are confused on if today is
holiday or not. Many private
businesses are closed and so are
all the banks.
Though today is not a "legal"
holiday, it is a "religious"
holiday that is respected by
many and as such will not be at
work.
According to the labour laws,
employers can give voluntarily
give time off for the day.
However, employers who don't
give time off can deduct pay for
those employees who don't show
up for work.
All banks posted notice on their
doors that today, Wednesday
August 2, they will be closed.
Many professional offices, like
lawyers, doctors and dentists,
for example, will be closed.
A number of retail shops
will keep their doors closed as
well, though malls and shopping
centres will operate as usual.
The day is to celebrate the "Día
de la Vírgen de Los Angeles".
