Police
Better Trained To Capture Sex
Offenders
With
the objective of forming new and
better officials, the Dirección
de Investigación Especializada
(DIE) of the Ministerio de
Seguridad Pública, held a
seminar given by an Italian
expert in the subject of
commercial sexual exploitation,
along with national experts of
the subject.
The seminar held last Wednesday
will go to help officials create
new alternatives to help them
catch sexual offenders on the
run and to prevent sexual
crimes, which for the most part
involve minors.
The seminar was called "Explotación
Sexual Comercial: una realidad
que nos enfrenta" grouped some
80 people from various
institutions, including students
from the Universidad de Costa
Rica.
Paul Cháves, director of the
DIE, is beneficial for his
officials in the battle against
sexual exploitation and to bring
in more sex offenders.
Cháves said that so far this
year, his officials have tracked
down and captured 33 sexual
offenders who have been evading
justice. The goal is to capture
150 by the year's end. Though
captures have occurred in all
provinces, Limon and Cartago are
the two provinces with the
highest number of captures.
