Legislators Pack Their Bags For
Change on May 1
Many legislative deputies are
getting their bags ready to
leave office, making room for a
new group of legislators who
will be moving in for the next
four years. Though the
presidential powers transfer on
May 8, the Legislature change
occurs on May 1.
For some the experience was a
once in a lifetime, for others,
it is part of a career choice.
The new legislature will be
quite different than the current
group that is made up by a
majority of the Partido Unidad
Social Cristiana (PUSC).
The new Legislature will be
dominated by the Partido
Liberación Nacional (PLN) and
the Partido Acción Cuidadana
(PAC). The PUSC has only a
handful of legislators. The real
power, experts say, is in the
hands of the smaller parties and
independents.
Dialogue, compromise and
backroom deals will be norm for
the next four years.
