Tibás To Be Garbage Free For Tomorrows Classic Game
Residents of Tibás have been plagued with a garbage problem for too long. But, thanks to this weekends soccer (futbol) game, Tibaseños can breathe some fresh air.

The "classic' match between Saprissa and Alajuela, to be played at the Saprissa stadium in Tibás, has the municipality racing against time to pick up all the garbage that has accumulated, in some areas for weeks.

Mayor Mayra González León said that as of yesterday, garbage collectors picked up some 100 tonnes of garbage and that by game time a total of 300 tonnes of garbage will be off the streets.

"That will be our goal and we will have it all cleaned up. The garbage collection is not only for those going to the game but for all residents", said González.

The game is tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.

Many residents have been complaining for the longest time and are just plain fed up with the situation.

JOrge Alarcón, general manager of Deportivo Saprissa, said that the club is like many in the area that want the city to fulfill its commitment. Alarcón added that the garbage on the streets doesn't affect the soccer game, but it gives a bad impression to the tens of thousands who are coming from all over the country.

Eduardo Arguedas, regional director of Health, confirmed that following a meeting with Ministerio de Salud vice-minister, Delia Villalobos, the health department will make another inspection, fearing an epidemic.
