US to request extradition of
Colombian hijacker
The US justice prepares to
request from Colombia the
extradition of the hijackers of
an airliner last week, on which
traveled a US citizen, said
local media Sunday.
Wheelchair-bound Porfirio
Ramirez Aldana, 42, and his son
Lissin Ramirez Reinoso, 17,
forced the crew of the airliner
to change direction towards the
military airport of Catam in
Bogota.
According to the Colombian law,
the United States can seek the
extradition of Ramirez Aldana,
but not his son.
Judicial sources in Bogota
revealed that the hijackers
could be sentenced to over 40
years in in jail in Colombia.
On Sept. 12, Ramirez Aldana, who
carried several grenades,
hijacked the plane from the
southern city of Florencia to
southwest Neiva.
Ramirez said he hijacked the
plane because he was angry for
not receiving state compensation
for his injury.
