Venezuelan Foreign Minister
Bashes UN
Venezuelan Foreign Affairs
Minister Ali Rodriguez said the
unveiling of the oligarchic
process of the UN was the only
positive result of the latest UN
Summit.
"It was proven that there is a
process of oligarchy at the UN,
where a small clique of nations
has great control," Ali
Rodriguez told Prensa Latina.
He said those countries
practically made decisions for
the rest of the world, "which
means no less than millions of
human beings living on the
Earth."
The positive thing about the
summit was that "it showed the
current UN reality, whose first
symptoms appeared with the US
invasion of Iraq, which damaged
the reputation of the
multilateral body" because many
world nations strongly condemned
it, he emphasized.
Ali Rodriguez said the procedure
to approve the false Summit
Final Statement without holding
debates was another negative
aspect of the meeting.
"Cuba and Venezuela, which enjoy
the privilege of being
independent, openly criticize
the UN, while others only
whisper in the hallways,"
Rodriguez added.
Rodriguez´ remarks followed
those by President Hugo Chavez
at the high level UN meeting. He
openly condemned the tactics
used to limit the number of
nations that attended debates
for the supposedly majority
declaration, clearly violating
the UN Charter.
Chavez called the document
invalid, illegitimate, null and
void and dictatorial in nature.
