"Soy Viejo Pero No Pendejo" Were the Words 70 Year Old Man Who Fought Off Attackers
Seventy year old Gilberto Hernández would not be intimidated by a couple of antisocials when yesterday in his neighbourhood of La Colina de Limón in the province of Limón, two youths confronted the man with a toy pistol with the intent to rob him.

According to Hernández, he told police that he was on his way home from the bank with ¢350.000 colones (us$715.00) when two men began to follow him and produced a toy weapon demanding his money.

Like nothing, Hernández took out his gun - his being real - and had no problem pointing it at the them and asking them to back off or he would shoot.

The two men, one on foot and the other on a bicycle, surprised at the reaction of the old man and realizing that theirs was only a toy, took out a large knike and threatened Hernández, who fought back and tried to take it away from them.

Between pulls and pushes as Hernández tried to take the knife from the assailants, his gun went off and impacted with one of them, a man identified as Ronald Chinchilla. Scared, the second attacker sped off on his bicycle, but managed to take the Hernández's bag of money in the scuffle.

Hernández then called 911 and waited for police and the ambulance to arrive.

Hernández was taken to the area Fiscalía by Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) police officials to give his testimony.

"Soy viejo pero no pendejo..." (I am an old man but not a fool) were the words of Hernández, who warned other thieves that their are wrong to think that an old man will just let do so as they want.
