D.I.E. List Down to 14
The list keeps getting smaller
with each passing day. The list
we are referring to is the 20
fugitives wanted for sex crimes
that the Ministerio de Seguridad
Pública set out to put behind
bars for and once and for all.
Yesterday, a 46 years old man
identified by the last name
Navarro, was the latest in being
arrested. Navarro, like most of
the others on the list, skipped
on his court date. All the men
on the list were arrested and
faced a trial, but, for some
reason, were free and made their
way back into the community,
were some worked as teachers in
public schools.
The latest arrest was made in
Barrio Cocoi in San José.
Navarro is accused of attacking
a young Cartago woman.
The 20 men who comprised the
list are wanted on various types
of sex crimes, from rape to
assault, some involving minors.
The list is now down to 14.
It all started several weeks ago
following the arrest of 53 year
old Victor Vargas, who in 1996
had been convicted and sentenced
to 16 years in jail for child
abuse but was still at large and
working as a teacher at the
Liceo Alfaro Ruiz, in Zarcero.
Officials of the Dirección de
Investigaciones Especializadas
(DIE) vowed to have all twenty
behind bars.
Police officials say that they
don't want to offer any details
and photos of their targets in
fear of tipping them off, making
their find more difficult.
