Pineapple Prices Drop 62% in One Month
The price for Costa Rican pineapples paid to growers has dropped from $0.40 per kg to $0.15 per kg since October until last week.

This represents a decrease of 62%.

Three main causes are named, the first of which is an over production of fruit. The second is the fact that a few ships have been diverted to Europe because of hurricanes around the US.

Also, the bad weather has unexpectedly had a reasonable impact in the north of Costa Rica, where about half of the produced fruit suffers from serious quality issues and is therefore rejected.
