Gasoline Price Drop Approved; Second In Less Than A Month
The Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) gave out its Christmas present yesterday with the approval of a reduction in the price of gasoline. This is the second reduction in a row in less than a month.

Yesterday's approval will see the price of litre of super gasoline drop by ¢20 colones, from the current ¢461 to ¢441; regular will drop ¢19 colones, from the current ¢439 to ¢420; and diesel will drop ¢15 colones, from the current ¢339 to ¢334.

The price drop will go into effect once it is published in the official government newspaper La Gaceta, which is expected within 5 working days, meaning the price at the pump will drop by next Friday at the latest.

On November 4, the Aresep approved a price reduction of ¢46 colones for super and ¢27 colones for regular. Within days the price dropped to ¢458 colones for a litre of super, down from the high of ¢504, and to ¢436 for regular, down from ¢463.

Ten days ago, the price of gasoline increased a ¢3 colones across the board, an automatic increase calculation of the tax portion on gasoline products.

What the price reduction means to the pocket book, is a savings of ¢900 colones to fill a 45 litre tank of super, ¢855 colones for the same tank with regular, and ¢675 colones for diesel.
