Be Wary of Fake Bills
The Ministerio Público is asking
the public to be alert for
"fake" bills during the holiday
season, as the Christmas
shopping season begins.
The first case of fake bills
occurred in Cartago when two men
attempted to purchase fruit and
other staples from a local
pulperia (corner store).
The owner of the store saw
something strange in the bills
that were being used to pay for
the purchase bananas, apples and
other foods, and upon a close
examination discovered that the
bills were fake.
The Fuerza Pública (police) was
immediately called and began a
chase of the two suspects and
were later caught in Cipreses de
Oreamuno de Cartago.
Police found a number fake
¢10.000, ¢5.000, ¢2.000 and
¢1.000 colones notes on the two
men. The men were arrested.
Police believe they could be
part of an organized group that
will use the hustle and bustle
of the holiday to defraud
retailers with their fake bills.
