Ecuador demands Colombia explain air incursion
Ecuador has demanded an explanation from Colombia for an air incursion by eight Colombian helicopters last week before Thursday when the two countries' deputy foreign ministers are due to meet here, local media said on Monday.

Ecuador's foreign ministry said the helicopters carrying 400 Colombian soldiers intruded into Ecuador's Esmeraldas province last Thursday for pursuing Colombian guerrillas based there.

Colombia's ambassador to Ecuador said that the Colombian government was preparing a report on the incident and an official response to Ecuador's request would be published soon.

He added that he personally did not know anything about the incursion.
