Hooters Hits Costa Rica
n a move that is "delightfully
tacky, yet unrefined" , Hooters
has opened a branch in San José.
It's the first of a planned
number in Costa Rica.
Somewhat surprisingly, it
doesn't sound as if Hooters is
changing much in its formula -
the skimpy uniforms remain the
same, and so do the wings, the
beer, and the fries.
The Hooters concept not only
reaches the sports fan, but
reaches out to the communities
in which it operates. In the
U.S. the Hooters Community
Endowment Fund (HOO.C.E.F.)
raises money for local and
national charities such as the
Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer
Research, Make-A-Wish
Foundation, the U.S.O., Special
Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes
Foundation and Muscular
Dystrophy Association. .
The company has no plans to
alter the concept in Costa Rica,
feeling it would be a tremendous
disservice to its franchisees,
employees, and customers.
Located in Plaza Itskatzu, east
of Multiplaza, opens to the
public today (Saturday).
