Pubic Hair Found On Little Girl is Neighbours
The DNA test results are finally in to determine who killed eight year old Josebeth Retana, who was found stuffed in a sack and dumped at the side of the Laja river in Sarapiquí.

Josebeth had been missing for 7 days as family and friends not giving up hope, combed the area where she was last seen alive, in hopes of clues and finding the girl alive, was found dead last September 12.

The Sarapiquí Organismo de Investigacion Judicial (OIJ) found several hairs in the sack that held the girl's body, believed to belong to the murderer. The initial investigation centred on the girl's stepfather, José Daniel Mejía.

However, the DNA results Ciencias Forenses (Medical Forensic Laboratory), in San Joaquín de Flores discarted Mejía as a suspect and police are now concentrating their efforts of a neighbour of the little girl's family, a man identified as Alexander Salamanca.

Jorge Rojas, director of the OIJ, in a press conference yesterday, said that forensic resutls the evidence found on the girl's body and clothing points to Salamanca or his blood line, that is, a brother or cousin.

witnesses told police that Salamanca was seen visiting the little girl's house on the day she disappeared, asking for her. Salamanca was then seen walking in the direction of the school where Josebeth attended, after Josebeth's mother told Salamanca that the girl was still at school.

Josebeth never made it home from school that day.

Rojas added that Salamanca was never detained because the "DNA mitocondrial" is not sufficient to ask for preventive detention, police lacking additional evidence to tie Salamanca to the murder.

The question that still puzzles investigators is how did Salamanca's pubic hair get into the girl's blouse. Josebeth was not raped.

Police theorize that the killer did not intent to kill the girl, but to sexually abuse her. The girl's screams infuriated the man as he sexually molested her, as he tried to shut her up, by placing his hand over her mouth and then stuffing her in a sack and forcing into to the water, drowning the girl to quiet her screams.

Salamanca, says that he is "tranquilo" (calm) at what police have to say about the case and that he is the main suspect in the investigation. "I ask God for strenghth and will continue to collaborate with police in their investigation", said Salamanca.

Salamanca's family is disgusted with the police and their investigation of one of theirs.
