Bus Accident Leaves 58 Injured
An accident near Atenas, Alajuela, left 598 injured - 3 seriously - when a bus they were riding in had it's brakes fail and collided against retaining wall.

The accident occurred around 9am when the bus was making a special trip to the Iglesia Cristiana Centroamericana de San José (Central American Christian church) carrying a group of faithful from Machuca and Orotina for a collective baptism.

According to official reports, the bus's brake line ruptured leaving the fully loaded bus without brakes. The driver managed to maintain control of the bus for about 400 metres but had to run it into the retaining wall as he approached one of the many curves along the downhill road.

The most severe of the injured is seven year old Keila Campos Agüero who was rushed by Red Cross personnel to the hospital Nacional de Niños.

A total of 65 persons from San José, Heredia and Cartago were on the early morning bus that left downtown San José at 7am.
