Environmental award for Costa
Rican
The British Whitley Award for
People and Ecosystems was
bestowed on Costa Rican
biologist Didiher Chacon for his
dedication to the conservation
of turtles on the Costa Rican
Caribbean.
When presenting the
award, the founder and director
of The Whitley Fund for Nature,
Edward Whitley, pointed out that
Chacon is one of those
environmentalists who are
special because they see beyond
their domestic borders to
perceive the global picture.
Chacon is now working to protect
turtles from poaching and
accidental death in fishing
nets.
