Havana Historian Fulfills Busy Agenda in Costa Rica
Havana City Historian Eusebio Leal Spengler finished a visit to Costa Rica on Wednesday that was considered by the local press as "an embrace between two nations and two brother peoples."

The famous Cuban intellectual began his visit Tuesday, giving a conference at the Education Faculty´s auditorium with the participation of students and academicians.

His spoke about the formation of the Cuban nation, highlighting its African and Spanish roots, noting "the blood calls but culture decides."

Leal Spengler also made reference to the construction of Old Havana Historical Center, describing it as a social-cultural project of considerable community significance.

He visited the National Theater, the Central Market and the National Museum of Costa Rica with Francisco Enriquez, director of the School of History of the University of Costa Rica.

He also met with Armando Vargas Araya, former Minister of Information and writer of the book Idearium Maceista, which was rewarded by the Costa Rican Academy of Geography and History in 2003.

This researcher explored the stay of Cuban patriot Antonio Maceo Grajales (1845-1896) in this Central American nation, where he founded The Mansion in the community of Nicoya, 250 kilometers from the capital.

In that locality of the province of Guanacaste, Maceo cultivated union and friendship between both peoples.

Leal later gave a lecture at the Spanish Cultural Center with the participation of Amalia Chavarri, Vice Minister of Culture, and members of the diplomatic corps as well as famous national personalities.
