Weekday Holidays To Move to Mondays
The Legislative Assembly approved in second debate a law that would pass holiday days that occur during the week to the following Monday.

The new law would move holidays like the that of April 11 (Anniversario de la Batalla de Rivas, July 25 (Anexíon de Nicoya), August 15 (Dia de la Madre), September 15 (Dia de la Independencia)  and October 12 (Dia de las Culturas) to a Monday if they fall during the week.

This year the April, July and August holidays fall on a Monday. In past years work was disrupted to give employees the day off.  Banks and government offices would close the day during the week, making it difficult, especially for foreigners who aren't aware of some the obscure official holidays, like that of July 25th.

Some say that it takes away the sense of the celebration if the day is celebrated on another day that it is custom. Others see it as a great opportunity to get away from work for a long weekend and spend more time together with family and friends.

The main impulse behind the law is to promote more tourism.

The law comes into force once it is published in the official newspaper La Gaceta, which expected in the coming week.
