10,000 New Trees
A project to plant 10,000 trees
in some 135 coffee plots in the
Alajuela canton of San Ramon was
launched.
The goal of
the plan, called "One Bag, One
Tree", is to protect rivers and
water sources, and it takes in
the training of coffee growers,
students, and the communities in
the region.
Forestry experts
from the Costa Rica Institute of
Technology chose the native
species to be planted, in order
to contribute to preserve the
bio-diversity of the area.
Carlos Alfaro, general manager
to one of the participating
companies, said that growers
were given one tree for every
bag of coffee they produce, and
added that 17 primary schools
and 135 producers are already
partaking in the program.
