San José to Have Street Names? The Municipality is Studying the Idea
Do you know the Toyota on Paseo Colóm? From there it's two hundred metres to the north,  then 50 west "the fifth house from the corner, with the black fence and large palm tree".

That is a typical direction to in San José as street names are few and signs are less.

Finding a friend's house or a commercial establishment can be an adventure, leaving many frustrated only to try again another day.

It is for this reason that the Municipality of San José, in their attempt to bring order to the city, is studying a project that would see streets have names and houses a number.

The idea is to make an address easier to find. Rafael Arias, a consultant to the Municipality admits that the capital city is "a little" disorganized.

The Municipality is being tight lipped about the project, preferring to make a decision and iron out all the details before making an announcement. Another reason that is  prompting change is the development of new buildings in the city, who are asking for an easier way to be found.

One example is the Mercedes Tower on Paseo Colon. It is the latest modern structure on the main road into San José centre.

It was easy to find since the Mercedes dealership occupied the ground floor. Now, that space is being occupied by the Scotiabank, it makes things a little more difficult.

For those who remember the  Mercedes dealership, they will continue to use it as a point of reference, leaving those not familiar with the area totally lost, which means going back to asking at least three people for directions and if two or more coincide, then you are on the right path.
