Mexican, Russian presidents to
discuss UN reform
Mexican President Vicente Fox
will visit Russia to discuss UN
reform and oil market situation
with Russian President Vladimir
Putin, Mexican government
officials said Friday.
Fox will also pay a two-day
visit to Ukraine, where Fox is
expected to meet Ukrainian
President Viktor Yushenko.
During his two-day stay in
Russia from June 21, Fox will
seek Russia support to his
proposal on UN Security Council
enlargement.
Contrary to what Germany,
Brazil, India and Japan have
proposed, Mexico just wants more
non-permanent seats to be added
in the council,
Maria de Lourdes Aranda, under
secretary of foreign affairs
said UN Security Council reform
would be a "priority issue" as
Russia is one of the five
permanent members of the
Council.
The two presidents will sign
agreements on energy and justice
cooperation.
