Heavy Rain Causing Flooding and
Mudslides in Many Areas of the
Central Valley
The heavy rains of the last
several days have caused alarm
for the Comisión Nacional de
Prevención de Riesgos y Atención
de Emergencias (CNE) as floods
are affecting many areas.
A spokesperson for the CNE said
the alarm is only an alert for
people to be aware of the
conditions, though there is no
high risk. The flooding problems
are in the same areas each year.
Yesterday, the areas of Alajuela,
Cartago, Goicoeches, San
Francisco and Calle Blancos saw
an increased water level in
rivers.
The Cruz Roja in Guadalupe
responded to call at a home
where the water level rose one
metre, causing damage to
furniture and appliances in the
house.
Mud slides are also causing
problems for residents and
emergency crews responding to
mud slides in Tibás and Santo
Domingo, causing traffic
problems as the mudslides
blocked several roads in the
area.
Minor flooding and mudslide
incidents are being reported in
all parts of the Central Valley.
For today, the low pressure
system that has provoked the
heavy rain continues with much
of the same.
