Argentina calls on Bolivia to
solve crisis through talks
The Argentine government Monday
called on Bolivia to find a
solution to resolve the current
crisis "within its
constitutional mechanisms".
"Argentina, aware of the
difficulties the sister nation
of Bolivia undergoes, closely
follows the development of the
political events and confirms
the principle of
non-intervention in the internal
affairs of countries," said a
communique of the Foreign
Ministry.
After insisting that "the path
for a solution to the crisis can
only be found by Bolivians
themselves," the Argentine
government called on the
Bolivian people to find a
solution "to the challenges of
today" through "dialogue and the
search for consensus."
Last week, Argentine President
Nestor Kirchner sent a message
of support to his Bolivian
counterpart, Carlos Mesa, who
just announced late Monday that
he would submit his resignation
to the congress after mass
anti-government protests had
paralyzed the country's capital
of La Paz for weeks.
