Colombian police seize 452 kg of
cocaine
The Colombian police seized 452
kg of cocaine and three
passengers aboard a truck in
Vichada department, on the
Venezuelan border, a police
communique said Monday.
The operation was conducted near
Primavera, when the police
stopped the vehicle which also
carried three passengers.
The police found packages of
drug in different parts of the
truck after a thorough check of
the vehicle, and arrested the
three passengers, who carried
arms, ammunition and explosions,
as well as communications
equipment.
The authorities are
investigating whether the
cocaine was beingtaken to
Venezuela for distribution to
other countries.
So far this year, the Colombian
authorities have seized over
52tons of cocaine.
With about 600 tons of cocaine
produced each year, Colombia is
the largest producer and
exporter of the drug in the
world. The main markets for
Colombian cocaine are the United
States and Europe.
