How do Hurricanes Form?
A National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) team of
researchers and technicians are
currently in Costa Rica to
launch the largest atmospheric
study ever by the space agency
outside the United States.
The
Tropical Cloud Systems and
Processes is a scientific
endeavor which will study the
genesis of hurricanes in the
tropics and the mechanics of
cloud formation.
Project head
Michael T. Gaunce announced the
arrival of the NASA ER-2 and the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Organization (NOAA) WP-3D
planes, as well as of not-manned
air probes that will partake in
the collection of data.
Over 100
scientific projects, most of
them from U.S. universities, are
involved in the mission, which
will develop along the month of
July.
