Consorcio Guarantees There
Will be Bulls At Zapote
Once again, as it has been like
a tradition for the past several
years, the "redondel de toros"
at at the annual Zapote fair is
in question.
Workers hurried over the past
week to erect the temporary
structure that become the main
focus of the Zapote fair that
begins tomorrow at noon, and
just as quickly as it was
erected, the Ministerio de Salud
(Health Ministry) shut it down.
The Consorcio Rivera-Chavarría
got the contract this year to
erect and run the "bulls" and
guarantee that by 3pm tomorrow,
the first bulls will be in the
ring. The Consorcio is hopeful
that today's inspection by Salud
will give it the green light,
that is, it has met all the
requirements demanded.
Luis Ballestero, representing
the Consorcio Rivera-Chavarría
is adamant that the rondel will
be completely finished by today
and that the Salud team led by
Dr. Guillermo Flores Galindo
will find everything to their
satisfaction.
Items like clearly signalling
emergency exits, security
anchors at the bull gates and
other small details are what
concern Salud, especially since
they don't count with the proper
architectural and engineering
permits.
The original rondel in the
middle of the fair grounds in
Zapote (west of the Pricesmart
in front of the Registro
Nacional) was torn down a number
of years ago when it was found
structurally unsafe. Each year,
a temporary rondel is being
erected, that will one day
become again a permanent
structure.
The Zapote fair starts tomorrow
and ends on January 1.
