ATM Thieves Make Off With ¢40 Million Colones
We know the holiday season is here by the crowds on the pedestrian boulevards and the malls and the high volume of vehicular traffic. The season is also marked by the high number of bank robberies.

The latest was on Saturday when thieves made off with ¢40 million colones (us$80.500 dollars) when the broke into an automated teller machine of the Banco Popular branch located inside the Aajuelita (south of San José) Municipal building.

Sunday morning customers wanting to use the ATM found that the machine was out of order and that doors to the entrance of the automated teller was forced open.

Police theorize that the thieves came through the roof, landing behind the cubicle that enclosed the teller machine and broke into from behind, taking with them all of the contents inside.

Neighbours complain that there isn't enough police presence in the area, especially the municipal building that faces the park. One upset neighbour said "what is happening here is that Saturday all the police in the area were sent to the Festival de Luz and thieves had their day."

Banco Popular security was quiet about the incident.
