Rural
Tourism Thrives
Based on the idea of promoting a tourism more focused on traditional Costa Rican
values, 75 small businesses partook in the 4th Rural Community Tourism Fair.
The
participants displayed their boarding facilities, tours, and handcrafts, among
other aspects of their operations.
According to Kyra Cruz, from the Rural
Community Tourism Association, most of the groups partaking in the sector are
preservation associations, Indian groups, and groups of women who develop
tourism in parallel to their traditional activities. She pointed out that all of
them protect the forests and engage in environmental education activities.
Rural
community tourism is aimed at letting visitors share in and enjoy a natural
environment, fishing, animal husbandry, agriculture, and other aspects of Costa
Rican traditional life.
