32.000 Lights Light Up the
Chidren's Hospital Christmas
Tree
Continuing the tradition, at 6pm
sharp, the 32.000 light bulbs
that adorn the Christmas tree in
front of the Hospital Nacional
de Niños (Children's hospital)
were lit, in front of the
curious eyes of the children and
their parents who came out for
the annual event.
The Hospital Nacional de Niños
was opened 41 one years ago and
it was the idea of señora Marta
Montis de Martínez to place a
pine Christmas tree in the front
garden. The tradition has
continued ever since.
The Compañía Nacional de Fuerza
y Luz (light and power company)
provides the electrical energy
free of charge and for the last
11 years has donated manpower to
install cabling and the
multicoloured bulbs that make
the event magical.
This weekend the annual telethon
- Teletón 2005 - kicks off in
the hopes of raising ¢250
million colones (us$500.000
dollars) for the construction of
an Intensive Care unit to be
named the Hospital de Las
Sonrisas.
