Mother of Dog Attack Victim in Costa Rica for Make Formal Complaint Against Police
Juana Francisca Mairena, mother of Natividad Canda, the Nicaraguan man that was killed by the dog attack in Cartago, says that her son was not on the private with robbery on his mind, but rather to visit his ex-father-in-law.

Juana is firm that the police should have shot the dogs, even at the risk of injuring her son, rather than stand by and do nothing and is in Costa Rica to make a formal complaint (charge) against those involved in the early morning attack and did nothing to stop it.

The mother assures that her son was not there to rob. Confirmed by Natividad's brother, who lives with a daughter of the security guard, they both told that Natividad at one time lived with another daughter of the security guard on watch that night and that the two men knew each other well.

Both Juana and Regino Canda (Natividad's brother) along with a lawyer they hired, are firm that police should have taken action during the early morning attack that some versions say lasted almost two hours, when the Rottweilers mauled the man.

Police officials where quick, following the attack, to point out that man was a thief and had police record of thefts and other petty crimes in the area. Police also say that Natividad was not alone that morning, he was accompanied by two others, who were able to leave the scene as the dogs made their attack.

The security guard disappeared following the incident. However, his family has strong feelings on the matter, saying that everyone knew what Natividad was, "a thief, and once a thief, always a thief." The guard's daughter who had had a relation with Natividad, added "he (Canda) had no business being there."
