Downtown San José Vehicle
Restrictions in Effect
If your license plate ends in 5
or 6, be reminded that you
cannot circulate the downtown
core of San José in the morning
and afternoon rush hours.
Tomorrow vehicles with license
plates ending in 7 or 8 will be
restricted and Friday 9 or 0.
The fine has been set at ¢5.000
colones, but, Transit official
will not be issuing the fine
just yet, preferring to give
drivers a chance to get used to
the new system. Until August 15,
Transit officials will only be
offering a warning to drivers.
The affected area is between
Avenida 9 (behind the INS
building) and Avenida 16 (behind
the Clinica Biblica) and Calle
11 (Plaza Víquez) and Calle 22
(west of Hosptial de Niños).
The restricted hours are 7am to
8:30am and 4pm and 5:30pm.
Police and emergency vehicles,
as well as taxis and buses are
exempt from the restriction.
Road signs are being posted to
remind drivers of the
restriction that is to last for
six months, but could be
extended if the results are
positive.
