U.S. to continue funding
Colombia's drug fight
U.S. Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice says Washington
will keep supporting Colombia's
fight against drugs and rebel
forces even after the expiry of
its aid package.
After talks with Colombian
President Alvaro Uribe Wednesday
in Bogota, Rice pledged to
provide another 600 million
dollars this year although the
formal five-year period of the
multi-billion dollar Plan
Colombia is coming to a close.
Rice also reemphasized the
U.S.'s support for Uribe's
government.
The United States has provided
more than 3 billion dollars in
assistance to Colombia since
2000 on counter-narcotics and
counter-insurgency programs and
on programs to improve the
criminal justice system.
Rice's four-nation
Latin-American tour has already
taken her to Brazil and will
take her to Chile and El
Salvador.
