8.000 Cellular Lines on Sale
Looking to purchase a cellular line? The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) has some 8.000 of the TDMA lines on sale since yesterday and is offering it first to those who have already made a formal request and then to the general sale after filling all the back logged orders.

To get the line, customers need to bring their request order, a TDMA telephone with a receipt of purchase and ˘12.500 colones for the deposit.

To obtain cellular service in Costa Rica, customers have to re citizens or legal residents, a copy of their cedula is required. Non residents cannot subscribe to the cellular network.

ICE says the 8.000 lines are lines that have been lost by customers who failed to pay their bills.

ICE says it has some 50.000 requests for customers who want cellular service and hopes to satisfy that need, hopefully by the end of this year when the new GSM network is expected to be installed and operational.

Following more than a year of setbacks and accusations of corruptions, ICE signed a deal with the Ericsson company to install 600.000 GSM cellular lines, worth some us$130 million dollars. ICE expects the to offer the service by not later than December of this year.
