Father Delgado Facing 72 Years
Prison For Abuses
The trial of priest Enrique
Delgado is coming close to the
end as the Ministerio Público is
asking the judges for 72 years
prison - 24 years on each count
of abuse against three minors.
The prosecution in it's closing
arguments told the court that is
has totally proved that the
priest abused the minors.
Rafael Giraud, the defence
attorney, had no comments on
yesterday's proceedings other
than to say that the defence
will present it's case in a
trial that could end as soon as
tomorrow or the day after.
Father Delgado is being accused
of sexually abusing three minors
who at the time where 14 and 15
years of age back in 2002, at a
time when the priest was very
popular in his Parrish, that
included a radio program La Hora
Santa.
The abuses, according to the
minors, occurred when the priest
visited them at their home in La
Garita de Alajuela on the
pretext of helping the them.
Delgado was formally charged in
November of 2003 and was ordered
to trial in March of 2004 and
was ordered to check in to
police on a regular basis, not
to leave the country and have no
contact with witnesses.
