Oil Bill Increased by $197.1
Million
Over the 12 months that ended in
March, Costa Rica paid us$735.8
million, us$197.1 million more
than in the same period ending
March last year, for oil
products.
While in March 2004 the Costa
Rican Oil Refinery paid an
average us$38.92 per barrel of
crude oil, this March the figure
was us$57.31, an average
increase of us$18.31 per barrel.
In the domestic market, the
price of super gasoline has gone
29.7 percent up in the period
analyzed, while national
consumption dropped by 3
percent.
In spite of this, the country's
hard currency reserves remained
high, thanks to income mainly
from tourism, according to Banco
Central de Costa Rica (BCCR) -
Central Bank - president
Francisco Gutierrez.
