Arias Goes on National
Television to Pitch His
Accomplishments
Former president, Nobel Peace
Prize winner and presidential
candidate for the 2006 election,
Óscar Arias Sánchez, made it
known on national television
last night his vision for Peace
in Central America.
Arias said that the political
situation in Central America and
around the world has changed
since when he was last president
(1986-1990).
The program was more of a
political campaign piece,
promoting the former president,
his achievements and
accomplishments and his thirst
for peace within the region. The
program detailed the actions by
Arias in the Organization of
American States (OAS), the
United Nations and meeting Pope
John Paul II, as well as his
work with the Presidential
Summit that was held in Costa
Rica last year.
The Nobel foundation awarded
Arias the Nobel Prize for Peace
in 1987 for his work in the
region. It is the highest honour
ever bestowed on a Costa Rican.
The television program ended
with reminding viewers of the
accomplishments of the Arias
administration and that all the
promises made in the 1985
election campaign were
fulfilled/
