Bus Collides With Train in Unusual Accident
Eight people were hurt in an unusual traffic accident between a train a bus in the vicinity of Ciruelas, Alajuela.

The train, carrying more than 200 passengers, was on route from Puntarenas to San José, when around 7pm, the train collided head on with a bus at the rail crossing on the Alajuela-La Guacima road with 15 passengers on board.

Red Cross emergency crews were on the scene immediately and took the hurt to the Alajuela hospital in stable condition.

Trains are rare in Costa Rica and many drivers don't pay attention or give thought to the remote possibility of a train at a rail crossing.

The Puntarenas train is the only passenger train that has a regular schedule between the port town of Puntarenas and San José, running on weekends, providing passengers a panoramic view of the crossing between the two cities.

Transit officials are still investigating the cause of the collision.
