Venezuela and Cuba Foster Friendly Bonds
Representatives of Cuba and
Venezuela start today in Caracas a Meeting of Mutual Frienship and
Solidarity which the organizers consider an evidence of the close links
of cooperation existing between both peoples and states.
The meeting will extend through April 10 and will work in round tables
and work groups on different topics including “Vision and Revolutionary
Achievements” and “Political and Economic Aggression from the Empire”.
Particular attention will be given to joint efforts for the liberation
of the five Cuban anti-terrorists imprisoned in the United States, where
they had infiltrated terrorist groups operating from US soil.
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labańino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González
and René González were sentenced from 15 years to two life sentences,
although prosecutors could not prove they had threatened the security of
the United States.
Another of the topics to be analyzed at the meeting is the XVI World
Youth and Students Festival to be held in Caracas next August.
Cooperation in social programs started by President Hugo Chavez is
another point in the agenda which include the perspective of exchanges
between social organizations of both countries.
Around 400 delegates from the 24 states of Venezuela and representatives
of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the Union of
Young Communists and workers and women organizations of Cuba.
In the opinion of Emil Guevara, one of the Venezuelan organizers of the
meeting, this event will help strengthen the links of friendship and
internationalist solidarity between both countries threatened by the
United States.
He said the exchange of ideas will also strengthen the experience of the
Solidarity with Cuba committees created in Venezuela in social networks,
communities, political parties and popular coordinators.
At present, those committees are active in the 24 Venezuelan states.
