Mexican Senate Urges Fox to Abstain from
Backing US Anti-Cuba Scheme
The Mexican Senate has passed a
motion calling on President Vicente Fox to abstain from voting in favor
of any anti-Cuban human rights resolution at the United Nations
Commission on Human Rights.
According to the Senate, such a resolution violates the main principles
of the international law.
Year after year, the US government uses the UNCHR to justify its
everlasting interventionist and hostile policy on Cuba, said senator
Marcos Cruz when he submitted the bill to the Senate´s floor.
Cruz emphasized that everyone is aware that only those countries that do
not give in to Washington´s interests become the target of US hostility,
while the US strategic allies have been given total impunity.
The Mexican senator insisted on the need to refrain from backing the US
anti-Cuba draft resolution at the 61st UNCHR session, with which
Washington seeks to justify the criminal blockade on the Caribbean
country and increase all kinds of pressures.
Cruz also lashed out at US double standard when referring to the Cuban
issue and stated that the Senate cannot be accomplice of the US
blackmail nor of a failing policy.
Likewise, civil organizations called on the Mexican government to vote
against the US resolution at the UNCHR and in turn condemn Washington
for the repeated violations of human rights in the Mexican territory and
abroad.
