Corner
This is the season for
festivals, actitivities
organized by local
municipalities. Following the
Zapote (San José) Fair has
always been Palmares and
Puntarenas.
Costa Rican

northern Pacific
coast. They were
among five
fishermen set
off in a small
fishing boat and
were lost at sea
due to fierce
winds. On Dec.
31, a Polish
cargo ship
spotted them off
El Salvador's
coast, and
alerted Costa
Rican coast
guard officials
who later
rescued them.

Lowest Inflation in 10 years
At 9.43 percent, last year’s
inflation was the lowest in the
last decade, according to the
National Statistics and Census
Bureau (INEC in Spanish).
Foreigners Fail Exams
In
order to obtain Costa Rican
citizenship, foreigners have to
take exams in Social Studies and
Spanish, but half of the
applicants fail, mostly because
of their lack of knowledge in
the history and geography of the
country.
Hotel for
Health Tourists
Group Uriel announced that it
will invest us$25 million to
build a hotel specializing in
addressing the needs of tourists
who come to Costa Rica in order
to subject themselves to medical
treatment.

Colombia investigates army

The Colombian authorities said
on Friday that they are
investigating an officer,
Captain Francisco Javier Coral,
after local television showed a
video of the officer beating
fellow soldiers.
