Two Pakistanis and another Syrian arrested in Honduras, this time near Nicaragua border

November 23rd, 2015 (VOA) Police in southern Honduras arrested two Pakistani men and a Syrian woman Saturday, accusing them of being in the country illegally and possibly trying to get to the United States.

Police picked up the three in Choluteca state, near the Nicaraguan border.

Officials said they did not have the proper documents to be in Honduras and were taken to an immigration office for questioning.

The arrests came a day after a Honduran judge ordered five Syrians jailed after they were found to have used stolen Greek passports to enter the county. They will remain behind bars while an investigation continues.

Officials alleged that the five Syrians also were planning to get to the United States. There was no immediate indication that they had ties to terrorism.

On Thursday, another Syrian woman was arrested in Costa Rica.  The woman was arrested at a small San Jose hotel after authorities determined that she had entered the country using a stolen and doctored greek passport.

The woman arrested in Costa Rica had arrived from Argentina and had in her possession a ticket to Spain, authorities said.
