October 7th, 2015 (ICR News) Costa Rica’s Drug Control Police (PCD) discovered a hidden shipment of 100 kilos of cocaine hidden in a truck of Nicaraguan registration that was attempting to cross the border back north to Nicaragua on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Public Security (MSP).
The 60-year-old driver, identified by the last name Castro was taken into custody. Official records indicated that the man had entered Costa Rica on September 29th.
Castro could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted on charges of international drug trafficking.
The discovery adds to other significant seizures in recent days.
Last week, The Costa Rican Coast Guard intercepted a boat carrying nearly one ton of cocaine off Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast.
Also last week, authorities intercepted a Costa Rican-flagged fishing vessel after air units spotted the crew retrieving a total of 629 kilos of cocaine from the ocean.
