Boat carrying nearly one ton of cocaine intercepted off Costa Rica’s Pacific coast

September 30th, 2015 (ICR News) The Costa Rican Coast Guard, with support from a United States P-3 Orion drug interdiction aircraft, intercepted a boat carrying nearly one ton of cocaine about 90 miles southwest of Cabo Matapalo, off Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast on Tuesday night.
Authorities tracked and pursued the 30-foot vessel for some 12 hours before intercepting and boarding the boat, where authorities discovered more than 900 kilograms of cocaine. Two Colombian nationals were taken into custody.
The discovery is the second large shipment of cocaine intercepted off Costa Rica’s Pacific coast in recent days, after authorities intercepted a Costa Rican-flagged fishing vessel off the coast of Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste that was transporting more than a half-ton of cocaine on Saturday.
Authorities have intercepted a total of 17 vessels in Costa Rican waters carrying a total of 12.7 tons of cocaine so far this year.
