FBI leads authorities to alleged leader of child porn network in Costa Rica

June 18^th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) After a series of raids conducted by authorities in Panama, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States received information which led to the alleged leader of an international child porn network operating from Costa Rica.

After receiving information from the FBI, agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) raided the suspect’s home in Puriscal yesterday, seizing computers, 150 DVDs, USB thumb drives and external hard drives.

The suspect, identified by the last names Chavarria Mora, allegedly supplied child pornography to a worldwide distribution network with ties and distribution channels in the United States and profited from the material.

Despite the allegations, the suspect was not arrested as part of yesterday’s raid.  Authorities said arrests would follow an analysis of the seized evidence, should proof of a crime be uncovered.

The last child pornography bust in Costa Rica occurred in August 2013, when 5 leaders of an international child porn network were arrested, including a 55-year-old commercial airline pilot.
