December 9th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A 9-year-old girl who had been missing since her American father picked her up for a visit on Friday, November 29th, was located on Thursday, December 5th along with her father in Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste, a day after Inside Costa Rica reported the story.
The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) in Heredia had issued an alert and was attempting to locate the girl, Katie Brooken Lukensmeyer Solano and her father, after the girl’s mother, a Costa Rican, alerted authorities and filed a kidnapping charge against the girl’s American father, her former partner, when the father failed to return the girl to her home.
The girl’s mother reported that she is in good health. “The girl is with me, that is the important thing. Legal action against her father is another matter,” Sandra Solano said.
It was believed earlier that the father could have fled the country with the girl.
The mother, who has custody of the child, and daughter are residents of Santo Domingo de Heredia.
Editor’s Note – Dec 9th 10:15am – Inside Costa Rica has been contacted by the girl’s father, who told ICR that he had legal permission to have the girl at the time. The father also said that the girl’s mother was aware the pair was at the beach, and that the OIJ had a phone number to contact him.
ICR has published a follow up story.
