Two men arrested for stealing 10 vehicles via classified ads

April 19^th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Ten people, over the course of just a few days, fell victim to two men who responded to classified ads of vehicles for sale, only to steal the vehicle from the owner.

The two men were arrested after stealing the vehicle of their last victim.  Agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) managed to capture the suspects as they attempted to flee.

The two men are accused of responding to classified ads of vehicles for sale.  Once on-site, the men would ask to take the vehicle for a test drive.  In some cases and at some point during the test drive, the men would pull out a gun and force the owner out of the vehicle.

This type of vehicle theft is one of the most common in Costa Rica.  It is not the first time the OIJ has arrested criminal groups operating in the same way.

Further, a report issued earlier this week shows that just 12.8% of stolen vehicles in Costa Rica are ever recovered.

The director of the OIJ, Jorge Rojas, urged residents to be more cautious and less trusting when selling a vehicle.

The case has been referred to the Alajuela Prosecutors Office.
