The house that Jobs built is the latest
company linked to a potential Twitter
acquisition, along with interactive
entertainment software giant Electronic
Arts. Jon Wilcox reports. FaceBook,
Microsoft, and Google have all apparently
tried and failed, but now Apple has been
linked to a potential acquisition of
micro-blogging website, Twitter.
Reports of the us$700 million acquisition
talks have surfaced on several sites across
the Web, including TechCrunch, which reports
a deal could be reached ahead of the Apple
Worldwide Developers Conference in June. If
accurate, it would mean that Apple has
valued Twitter $200 millioni higher than
FaceBook, which is rumoured to have had a
$500 million deal rejected earlier in the
year. Not bad for a Web 2.0 website that is
yet to reveal a business model.
To date, the iPod/iPhone/Mac giant has
accrued a $29bn war-chest, second to Cisco
Systems’ $30 billion, so it could easily
afford Twitter. In fact, a second alleged
acquisition target for Apple arose today via
TheStreet.com, in the form of Electronic
Arts. The world’s biggest developer of
videogames with a turnover of $3.67bn in
2008, and home to franchises including the
massively successful Need for Speed, FIFA,
and The Sims, EA had previously been
rumoured to be an acquisition target of the
Disney Corporation.
As for Costa Rica - with an annual nominal
GDP of around $29 billion, it too could
potentially be a target for Apple. Let’s
face it, everybody else seems to be.
